Our Visit to the Omar Dengo Foundation

During our trip in Costa Rica, Tech 101 Kids paid a visit to the renowned Omar Dengo Foundation. The Omar Dengo Foundation is an amazing organization stationed in many countries in Latin and South America. They offer many different classes and courses covering many different fields and subjects such as Science, Digital Citizenship, Inclusive education, Online learning, Business, Knowledge Management, Educational Informatics, Logic and Mathematics, Programming, Networks, Robotics, Health, and much more. Each one of those subjects has sub categories with even more classes.

They also perform many research and evaluation projects. These efforts allow the implemented programs by the organization to create and convey educational models that integrate technology, evaluation and monitoring processes, which are all an important part of an integral educational vision. They gave us a quick tour of the facility and we saw where most of the classes took place. They also showed us a huge auditorium where they host classes in the summer and winter and Olympiads as well.

They told us that they are doing this because they want to get more kids into technology and give them the chance they wouldn’t have at home. We thought that it was really great what they were doing for their community and the surrounding countries. As a little bonus at the end of the tour, they showed us a robot they recently had bought.

Over all we had a great time and we hope to be able to come back next year.
